August 2, 2022 -- NEW YORK, NY -- Partnerships for Parks (PfP), a joint program of NYC Parks and City Parks Foundation, is pleased to announce a commemorative event recognizing the conclusion of public art installation “Community Heroes”. The installation is hosted with Photoville. Amplifying visual storytellers through activating public spaces, Photoville’s “Community Heroes” project showcases local heroes of Bedford Stuyvesant and Crown Heights at St. Andrew’s Playground in Brooklyn. Through this public art project; local creatives, youth, and community members collaborated to celebrate those dedicated to strengthening and supporting Bedford Stuyvesant and Crown Heights with large-scale banners featuring the vibrant and candid photographs and stories of community leaders; created entirely by local writers, youth, photographers, and artists. The community members behind the “Community Heroes” project will gather to de-install the works, with the “heroes” as featured speakers. They will comment on their personal stories and what St. Andrew's Playground and the surrounding community means to them. The event is a collaboration between Partnerships for Parks’ Catalyst program—a long-term community development program working in historically under-served NYC parks—and Photoville’s “Community Heroes”, a community organizing and public art project celebrating everyday heroes in New York City, neighborhood by neighborhood.
