While real estate developers, government officials, and global financial players jockey for position in the housing market, everyday people are increasingly caught in the crossfire. As an anecdote to this pressure, which often manifests on the local level as “gentrification,” a team of activists and artists formed Community Heroes, a community-based public art project that celebrates everyday heroes in New York City, neighborhood by neighborhood.
