Fort Greene

Lucille Tinsley

In the midst of the Fort Greene Community, we have a beautiful flower, Ms. Lucille Tinsley. She has been a long-time resident with a heartfelt legacy of love, care, compassion, and charity. Ms. Tinsley came from a loving and supportive family. Growing up she witnessed her mother aid and lend a helping hand to others. Ms. Tinsley assisted in raising her siblings, which gave her a humbling experience. By virtue of the love of caring for children, Ms. Tinsley began her journey of helping the community, raising and fostering children. Ms. Tinsley has spent over 20 years fostering children, and helping and supporting the community. She believes the benefit of fostering children provides them with a safe environment, being able to see a brighter future.

Along with her own children who are very supportive of her, Ms. Tinsley is described as a family woman, who loves spending time with her grandchildren. Everyone calls her “a blessing”. Many call her a quiet storm, because she embodies a powerful yet subtle presence, making positive things happen.

Ms. Tinsley is the kind of person whose actions/ good deeds speak for themselves. This beautiful flower is known for volunteering in the neighborhood food pantry. She is also known for her outstanding cooking where she did not hesitate to feed many others.

A passion of Ms. Tinsley is to work within the Garden of Eden on Myrtle Ave. She is a former board member and an active member of the tenant association. She is also involved in Zion Shiloh Baptist Church. She strongly encourages the youth to respect their elders and be sure to get a proper education, giving nothing but inspiration as always.

I believe Ms. Tinsley’s legacy will continue to flourish because of the unconditional love she shares with others!
